EPFO KYC update: how to add or change your bank account, Aadhaar and PAN in your UAN

Quick answer

Your PF KYC is the bank account, Aadhaar and PAN linked to your UAN. Without it, online claims and transfers fail. Add or change them on the EPFO member portal (Manage → KYC) or the UMANG app. Since April 2025, adding a bank account to your UAN no longer needs employer approval, and claims no longer need a cheque-leaf photo for KYC-compliant UANs. If Aadhaar is not seeded or is wrong, your employer can seed or correct it through a joint declaration (from August 2025), or the PF office PRO can do it for you. It is all free.

Sunil from Kolhapur tried to withdraw PF for his daughter's college fees. The claim was rejected: "bank account not verified". His UAN still had the salary account from his first job, which he closed in 2022. Fixing the KYC took him 10 minutes. Here's how.

What is "KYC" in PF?

KYC itemWhy it mattersMust match
Bank accountClaims are paid only into this accountYour name as in UAN; account must be active
AadhaarNeeded for UAN activation, OTPs, online claims and transfersName, date of birth and gender in your PF record
PANLower TDS on PF withdrawals before 5 yearsYour name as in UAN

Add or change your bank account

  1. Log in to the EPFO member portal (unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in), or open UMANG → EPFO.
  2. Go to Manage → KYC.
  3. Choose Bank, enter the account number and IFSC, and save.
  4. The bank details are verified online. Since April 2025, no employer approval is needed to seed a bank account with your UAN.
  5. Check the status on the same KYC page. Once verified, use this account for claims.

Closed old account still linked? Simply add the new active account. Claims are paid only to the verified account on your UAN, so update it before filing a claim. A claim paid to a closed account bounces and takes longer.

Aadhaar not seeded, or the wrong Aadhaar linked

  • First-time seeding or correction: since August 2025, the member portal has a Joint Declaration facility. If your Aadhaar details exactly match your UAN profile, the employer can seed it directly, with no other approval. If they don't match, the employer forwards the request online to the EPFO office.
  • Employer not available? Go to the PRO (Public Relations Officer) at your PF office. The PRO can file the request online for you.
  • Easiest route for many people: activate or authenticate your UAN with face authentication in UMANG. Your details come straight from Aadhaar. See UAN activation with face authentication.
  • Name or date of birth different from Aadhaar? Fix that first: PF name and date of birth correction.

Add PAN

Under Manage → KYC, choose PAN, enter the number and save. Make sure your PAN is operative (linked with Aadhaar). With a valid PAN, TDS on a PF withdrawal before 5 years of service is lower. See TDS on PF withdrawal and PAN inoperative.

A PF account you don't recognise in your UAN?

Sometimes an employer links a wrong member ID to your UAN by mistake. Since 18 January 2025, members can de-link a wrongly linked member ID online from the member portal. More than 55,000 members did so in the first six weeks.
