Aadhaar date of birth correction: the once-only rule, documents and what to do if you’ve used it

Quick answer

You can change your date of birth in Aadhaar only once in your lifetime. It must be done at an Aadhaar centre with a valid proof of date of birth (birth certificate, passport, SSC/10th certificate, etc.), and the fee is ₹75. If you have already used your one change, you need UIDAI’s exception process through the regional office (apply via the 1947 helpline or a centre, then follow the regional office’s instructions).

Before you go — get the date right

Because you get only one chance, check that the date on your document is the one you want everywhere (PAN, bank, school records, passport). If your PAN has a different date, decide which one is correct — changing Aadhaar may break an existing PAN–Aadhaar match. See PAN–Aadhaar mismatch.

Documents usually accepted as proof of date of birth

  • Birth certificate (issued by the Registrar of Births and Deaths / municipal authority)
  • Passport
  • SSC / 10th / school leaving certificate with date of birth
  • Government pension or service records showing date of birth

PAN card is not accepted as proof of date of birth for Aadhaar. Always check UIDAI’s current list of valid documents before visiting.

Steps

  1. Book an appointment at an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (or walk in to an enrolment centre).
  2. Carry your Aadhaar and the original proof of date of birth.
  3. Fill the update form (or the operator does it), give biometrics, pay ₹75, and collect the URN slip.
  4. Track the status with your URN. If the update is rejected, read the reason carefully before trying again.

Already used your one change?

Call 1947 or visit an Aadhaar centre and ask for the exception process. Your request goes to the UIDAI regional office (Mumbai for Maharashtra), which may ask for documents or a personal visit. Approval is at their discretion.
