Fake Aadhaar and PAN update websites: how to spot them — and what to do if you entered your details
The only official Aadhaar websites are uidai.gov.in and myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in (plus the official Aadhaar app), and PAN/income tax services are on incometax.gov.in, Protean (onlineservices.proteantech.in / proteantech.in) and UTIITSL (pan.utiitsl.com). Any other site — even with the right logo — is not official. If you entered details or an OTP on a fake site, lock your Aadhaar biometrics, change passwords, call 1947, and if money was taken, call 1930 immediately.

Warning signs of a fake site
| Sign | Example |
|---|---|
| Domain is not .gov.in (or the official Protean/UTIITSL domain) | Names built from “aadhaar-update-…”, “uidai-…”, “pan-seva-…” ending in .com, .in or .online |
| Link came by SMS/WhatsApp saying your Aadhaar/PAN will be “blocked” | “Update KYC today or PAN will be deactivated” |
| Asks you to pay a “processing fee” by UPI | Official fees are paid only on official portals |
| Asks for full Aadhaar + OTP + bank details together | UIDAI never asks for bank details |
| Poor spelling, pop-ups, “limited time” timers | Pressure tactics |
If you entered details on a fake site
- Lock your Aadhaar biometrics on myAadhaar or the Aadhaar app — how.
- Check Authentication History on myAadhaar for anything you didn’t do.
- If you shared bank or card details, call your bank immediately to block cards/UPI and change passwords.
- Money lost? Call 1930 within the first hours and file a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in — quick reporting can freeze the money.
- Report the fake website/SMS on Sanchar Saathi (Chakshu), and inform UIDAI on 1947.
Frequently asked questions
What is the official website to update Aadhaar?
myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in (and uidai.gov.in), or the official Aadhaar app. Nothing else is official.
I entered my Aadhaar and OTP on a fake website. What should I do?
Lock your biometrics, check Authentication History, alert your bank if you shared bank details, and report on 1930/cybercrime.gov.in and 1947.
Can someone misuse just my Aadhaar number?
The number alone is not enough for most transactions, but combined with an OTP or cloned fingerprints it can be misused — so lock biometrics and never share OTPs.
